At last Sweet England arrived from Amazon - and what sweet memories of Jim and the 4 here in New Plymouth, NZ for WOMAD earlier in the year.
Was lucky enough to listen to all 3 sets on 3 different stages, each of them contributing to a different atmosphere for the wonderful old english songs.

The workshop was great with Jim going solo, but still producing a great sound - hope the band had time to look around our lovely country while they were here - if not, maybe they'll come back again (please, please, please) - WOMAD 2007 is in New Plymouth again (lucky us!)

Was wondering what the 'little black box' was that Jim used - some sort of echo gadget? Very effective, whatever it was!

Finally, now I have the CD, and obviously the website address, I can pass it on to those who have been enquiring about the CD and where to access it.

Barb

ps sorry we couldn't turn on the rain for you Jim!!

There are a few boxes that Jim uses live. There is a Yamaha SU10 sampler (the blue handheld box) which does the vocal samples from lemady. An Apple powerbook for electro noises (not used as much as it used to be, but there anyway). The "echo gadget" is a Line6 DL4 which is green and on the floor by Jims mic stand. That does live samples of the guitar.

Recent additions to the solo equipment include a TC helion voice processor and more Line6 guitars and processors. Jims aiming to incorperate these next time he does solo shows so they should be in use by Truck fest, but the current band show stays on the same equipment for simplicity.

Incidently, for those who are interested, the guitars on the current tour are as follows - Atkin OM and J45 acoustics made by the lovely Alister Atkin, a new G&L ASAT electric, the sunburst Fender Strat Jims been using for a while, the gold Ibanez semi, a Line6 variax 500 and a Line6 Variax Acoustic. The famous Chrome Tokai Talbo that was on the cover of Sweet England has now been retired after an airline mangled it. Jonny uses a Fender Strat and Tele. The acoustic on the cover of fRoots last year was made by "hunt of dartington" and came from ebay. Pedals are by Line6 and Vox, amps are a 60s Vox AC30 (jim) and a recent Fender Hotrod deluxe (jonny). The piano is a Yamaha and the drums are either a 50s Gretsch roundbadge set (the oyster pattern kit) or a 60s Sonor set (the "trading card" kit) with Zildjian cymbals. The Laptop runs Max MSP and Logic. Ryan plays a big wooden box with rubber bands stretched over it.

Wow!! and I thought it was just a little black box!! Thanks for the info - what a shame about the Chromen Tokai Talbo.

We get so many people asking about equipment I thought it'd be easier to lay it out.

Mind you, this band LOVES to talk about gear, so don't let that put you off next time you see them in the bar after a show....
