Winchester Railway Inn gig

Hi all.

I went to see Jim last night in The Attic at the Railway Inn. A lovely little venue; a room above a very simple single-bar pub. All seated venue last night. Think tatty french cafe/railway waiting room/ 1970s sitting room with cafe tables and chairs, banquettes and a wonky standard lamp! Seats about 50, I think [pretty well full last night] so a perfect venue for Jim solo. A very intimate venue. I will certainly try to go there again.

Jim was just great; songs from all albums as far as I could tell. Just voice, guitar, piano and a bit of loopiness; not sure what the technical term is. Just perfect. And a chance for the folk of Winchester to demonstrate their singing skills and enthusiasm at the end. I tried to catch what those fingers were doing during Lord Douglas to make my insides turn but all I can honestly say is 'moving and stopping at different speeds'. Sorry. 'Is is true' was gorgeous. It was also so good to hear Sweet England and Lord Bateman live, as they were the first of Jim's songs I heard, on the Mike Harding show a couple of years ago.

I live in North Somerset and could not get to the Exeter or Corsham gigs. I knew I was working in Yeovil yesterday so I thought hey ho, just another hour and a bit to Winchester after Yeovil so I just carried on driving. So glad I did.

Are many of you fellow fans living in the Southwest-ish? My husband comes along to keep me company but it would be great to go to Jim gigs with someone who really wants to be there!

Just to let you know, Anais Mitchell is in the UK in June and playing St Bonventures in Bristol on 4th June.

Thanks for a great evening last night, Jim,

Jeannie

I was there last night as well - was really wonderful - It was the first time I've seen Jim solo and it was quite something smiling smiley My friend was rather pleased with his impromptu guitar lesson at the end as well -thanks Jim!
Only slight gripe was the ticket price, which was advertised, I believe, as £15, but on the night turned out to be £18, with no consessions, which makes a bit more of a dent in a student budget... might not have gone had I known, though I suppose I'm glad I did in the end.
I'm sort-of southwest-ish (Andover) some of the time, but studying in Birmingham at the moment, so probably not much use for gig-going!

really? ooh... I didn't know. Sorry!

Next time I'll try to ask questions about the ticket price beforehand. The ticket price is usually agreed on the contract, but this was a late addition (it missed appearing on the tour flyers) so it must have slipped through the net.

Thanks for coming though. I'll try to play somewhere a bit closer to Birmingham with a lower ticket price soon.
