2011 Top 10 Jim Songs Poll
December 13, 2011 01:00PM
Hi guys,

Following on from last year's bit of fun, I've decided to run another poll of your top 10 Jim songs. I know that my favourites change all the time, and it'll give all of the newer forum members who weren't around last year, a chance to let us all know their top songs.

As I did, last year, I'll mark the songs Eurovision style, 1 to 8, 10 and 12.

If anyone lists 10 songs, but in no particular order, eg alphabetical, number of iTunes plays, drawn out of a hat etc, I'll mark them with the first song in the list getting the 12 points, the second song getting the 10 points, down to the tenth song getting the 1 point.

Polling will stay open until midnight on New Year's Eve, and I'll collate and publish the results in early January.

So, to start you off, here are my top 10 Jim Moray songs for 2011 -

01 - Spencer The Writer
02 - Nightvisiting
03 - Magic When You're Near
04 - The Lowlands Of Holland
05 - Poverty Knock
06 - Henry's Downfall
07 - Horkstow Grange
08 - My Sweet Rose
09 - Hard
10 - Lord Willoughby

Looking forward to getting your lists, and yes, Jim, you can vote too, it'll be really interesting to see what your own favourite songs are.

01 - Lord Douglas (aka Earl Brand)
02 - Lucy Wan
03 - Lemady

04 - William Taylor
05 - Poverty Knock
06 - Who's The Fool?
07 - Henry's Downfall
08 - The Week Before Easter
09 - The Suffolk Miracle
10 - Barbara Allen

That was harder than I imagined once I'd got beyond the top four smiling smiley

Hello,

I've enjoyed reading everyone's selections so far and selecting my own favourites was fun but far more problematic than anticipated. I like different songs at different times but narrowed it down to the following ten plus one sneaky additional interloper....

1. This is the sound
2. The Wild Boar
3. Black Joak
4. Suffolk Miracle
5. The Seeds of love
6. Hard
7. Nightvisiting
8. Valentine
9. Long Lankin
10. Poverty Knock

and my sneaky one is a song not performed by Jim but arranged and produced by him for Jackie

11. Birthday

After 4 sets of votes, the current top 3 are -

Nightvisiting (20)
William Taylor (19)
Lucy Wan (18)

Hopefully, a few more people will submit their votes, only 4 so far against 80+ views.

1. This Is The Sound - absolutely wiz(z)ard, far too good to be languishing on an obscure B-side, can't someone famous cover it and take it to #1, are you listening Simon Cowell ?
2. My Sweet Rose - post-punk, post-prog, post-goth, post-B, another festive compromise ?
3. Black Joak - how Jim can sing this live with a straight face is beyond me
4. Bristol Harbour - love the PIL drums and Hammillesque guitar, although it's supposed to be Tears For Fears vs. Marillion apparently
5. Who's The Fool? - another prog masterpiece, another planet
6. Gilderoy - as in Mawkin:Gilderoy perhaps ?
7. Dog & Gun - a tortuous dirge, genius
8. Magic When You're Near - must be nu-folk, we'll come back next year
9. Lord Willoughby - anyone would think Jim had been listening to Adam & The Ants...oh,wait a minute..
10. Lowlands Of Holland - OMG, he does folk music too !!!!

No prizes for guessing what my favourite JM LP is.
