Hi everyone!

I was wondering if anyone has been to a concert there before? What's it like?

Anyone else going to the JM show there?

Thanks,

Laura

Laura,

I'm putting on the Jim Moray gig at Trelawnyd. I live in the village, which is about 6 miles east of Rhyl. The Hall is in the centre of the village and was renovated a few years back. I organised an event at the Hall in October last year with Bella Hardy and Dean Owens. The Jim Moray gig is the first of several at the Hall in 2010 - I guess what I'm trying to do is to bring some fantastic singer songwriters / musicians into this venue (more info on my website www.therecordjournal.co.uk).

My details are on the website if you want to find out more. We're big Jim Moray fans, and hope you can come to the show.

Hi Laura,
Did you go to the Jim Moray concert at Trelawnyd. If you did, then I'm sure you would have enjoyed it as much as I did.Only problem was the few tickets sold (70 approx.)What do people up there want? Jim Moray and band plus really good support band called Becca and the Biscuits all for £13.00, unbelievable. I understand that Jim is off to Texas for the south by south west festival and playing on the 19/20 March 2010. My son is out there filming for MTV so hopefully will bring back some footage for us all to enjoy. More gigs lined up for Trelawnyd during the year including Miss Carthy. Should be good. The venue is very intimate and a gret place to get close up to artists and very easily have a natter with them. I can recommend a visit and wish Kelda (organisor)the best of luck. I'm really surprised that so few tickets sold, I was sat a few rows from the front and the audience appreciation from behind made it sound like there were far more. I hope that the JM, the band and everyone else weren't put off (didn't notice if they were).

It was a very good night - performances excellent as usual and we were treated to some of the new material.

Hi guys,

I'm glad you had a good time. We were rather disappointed by the turnout as well but part of the battle with setting something like this up in a place like Trelawnyd is persuading that final sector of the audience (the locals) to come along. I don't get too down though - it's only our second concert here and we do everything possible to make is a success. Like many local venues and folk clubs we don't have mass marketing and money to spend on getting the word out so we spend a lot of time and effort doing that. Sadly until the word of mouth spreads and the shows get more attention the grabbing of huge audiences is difficult.

However our aim has always been that no matter what the numbers are that the people who are there have a good time. Judging by the feedback I've got so far everyone seemed to have a great time. That's what keeps us doing it really. That and the fact that we enjoy it as well! smiling smiley

I hope Jim had a good time as well Anthony!!! Thankyou for the luck as well Martyn!

This was a great gig, thanks for organising it Kelda. We really enjoyed it all and the atmosphere you created was very welcoming. Becca and her one broken biscuit and the folk guys from Chester did a great job, and Jim Moray and his excellent band were even better than I'd hoped, it's just a shame they couldn't do longer.

I know there weren't as many people there as might have been expected in the normal run of things, but as Kelda has pointed out, she's only just starting out putting on gigs in Trelawnyd and it will take a little while (hopefully not long) for word to get around. To answer Martyn, the people "up here" do want good live music, it's just we're not used to finding it so locally. We usually have to look to Liverpool and Manchester for performers of Jim Moray's calibre. In fact, when I noticed the gig on this website, I thought it must be a mistake, as I live near Trelawnyd, and couldn't believe that somebody so well known was coming here to perform.

We'll be going to more of these gigs and will be spreading the word, as will the friends who came with us, and hopefully Jim Moray will agree to come back, to play for a bigger crowd next time smiling smiley
