> Highlight of the day for me was definitely the
> Morris On concert.

Ditto everthing Fiddler's Elbow said!!!

Had a superb day taking in the dancing, the music, Tim Plester's documentary and the Morris On gig in the evening! Unlike FE - I managed to get hold of a copy of Morris On during last week, and gave it a couple of listens before last night's gig - and Jim and the boys (and Jackie) did the original proud! It was fun, energetic and toe-tapping - and if the audience enjoyed themselves as much as I did, then I reckon a huge success - and in the audience there appeared to be quite a few obvious "older" fans of the original album - I think they were suitably impressed too!

How nice of Jim and the gang to bring Ashley Hutchings out to join them in singing the last song of the night... Talking of who - WOW is his son Blair Dunlop talented or what?! I've never seen guitar playing like that before - and I was transfixed! Is it called "double tapping"??

Anyhoo - Mawkin were great, and I was one of those up jigging at the end, and the different "styles" of Morris Dancing were thoroughly entertaining. I didn't realise Saul was so funny either, and I was so glad that someone found him a towel, as he really did look like he was about to melt!

I've only one question, which I didn't have quite enough time to ask Jim after the gig (when he and the rest of the musicians were in the foyer happily chatting to the public), and that is: are there any plans for you to release your version of Morris On??

Great day yesterday, and a great evening too. Cheers! :)-D

Fantastic day yesterday. Loved seeing all the morris dancers and the total chaos it caused down on the walkway LOL

Caught Mawkin's set which was ace. They was a few of us that didn't need any encouragement to get up and dance at the end!

Highlight of the day for me was definitely the Morris On concert. I'd not heard the album before this so I didn't quite know what to expect. But it was brillant. The Q&A with Ashley Hutchings was really interesting and entertaining. And then onto the gig! Really really enjoyed it. The atmosphere was amazing, the band just seemed so relaxed and having so much fun. And I hadn't realised how funny Saul was!

Jim - it did seem rather mean they didn't bring out a morris hat for you at the end! And thanks for a great evening :D

Thanks Jim. I'm looking forward to the album - I like BF a bunch. I also really enjoyed the James Reynard album you produced a few years ago - there was some brilliant stuff on that. In fact, I'll have to dig it out when I get home and have a listen.

Hi,
I play a bit on the tracks, but not that much. Off the top of my head I did some guitar, double bass, a bit of subtle synths (I doubt you'd know they were there unless you heard it in isolation) and some samples (again, you have to hear it).

Producing is different every time - it's all about the circumstances and what needs doing. I'll basically pick up any slack - if theres a lot that needs doing I'll do that, if theres very little other than making tea and pressing record then thats what I'll do. There isn't a set process or even a particular mystery to it. The Belshazzars record was mostly about making decisions. They'd tend to play a lot of different versions of tunes and be unable to pick out which one they wanted to be the 'master'. My job was to decide for them and then keep it moving to the next thing. There was nothing technically complex and the engineering wasn't flashy or clever. It's just about making it happen.

<< Eloy - Planets (bit proggy!) >>

Now, there's a blast from the past! I had a couple of their albums in the early 1980s while I was going through my own proggy phase (a bit of a rite of passage for those of us of a 'certain age').

Am loving Jonsi's album too Madeline.

Inbetween last minute master's dissertation panic, I've recently been listening to alot of Laura Marling. It took me a while to properly get into her stuff, but I am so glad I have. I really can't get over how young she is, and yet how much maturity her voice/songs/lyrics contain.

I've also been listening to Jonsi's "Go" and The Decemberists' "Hazards of Love" and returned to Patrick Wolf's "Lycanthropy" and Ryan Adams' "Love Is Hell".

Also nice to see some mention of Sam Amidon, Jim. I've been interested in him for a little while and find his approach really interesting.
